Weekend Recap

What a fun, full family weekend we had! Soon we will be moving (did you hear? Our house is under contract, and we made an offer and were accepted on a new house!!), so this weekend was great for us to spend some relaxing, yet active, time together. This is one of my most picture-heavy posts in a while, so prepare yourselves accordingly...

Friday:
My stress level was through the roof when I left school. The STAAR test for my kids is one week from today, and that's the purpose of my job. I always start to feel the anxiety on behalf of my kids at this time of the year, and it was palpable by Friday. We took a break with my sweet 5th period (who has me for 20 minutes longer a day than anyone else) to watch the Baylor game after they finished working. I looked up from my computer, there were several pairs of eyes glued to the TV, and many other pairs of eyes glued to their own iPads watching coverage. #teenagers

To unwind from the week, we met the Griesemers at our favorite--George's! Cara loves to say "George's" and even is getting better about saying "Piss and Sarah". Too funny. :)

We taught Cara "earmuffs", likely from some sort of conversation topic that little ears didn't need... I'm looking at you, boys! :) We had a great time eating and talking, and Cara was happy WAY past bedtime as long as she had food to eat (tons of green beans and pineapple from home, plus a chicken tender and some yummy George's rolls) and someone's lap to sit in. It was a good night with some friends.

Saturday:
Cara didn't sleep in as late as we would've liked, but it was OK. She and Chance played for a little bit while I got up and attem. He brought her back to our bed, and we rolled around, played, and laughed. Then she sat next to me for 30 minutes and looked through pictures on my phone and named everyone she knew. I love that as she gets older, her attention span can focus on a few things for longer. And I was glad for a few moments of still from my otherwise on-the-go toddler. She even laid her head down and said "night night" and then closed her eyes halfway. So funny!

We played all morning, and then Cara fought her nap for almost an hour before finally giving in. We got cleaned up while she slept (for only another hour...) and then we went with our Sunday School class to a Baylor baseball game! We didn't get to go to a game last season, and we used to love it! We sat with all our friends, a lot of kids and enjoyed beautiful, warm, humid, windy weather.  It was lots of fun, and the Bears won, so we had reason to celebrate!

Cara held her own brown bear during the game, stood up to "jump" during the music, ate a ton of Goldfish and apples with me. We love Baylor games of any sport, but baseball is one of the best--my relationship with Chance solidified over many a ballpark visit way back in 2005... :)

We went to get ice cream at U-Swirl after the game and avoided some of the torrential rain. Cara was only interested in eating the blueberries and raspberries inside my ice cream (Whose kid is she??).

Later that evening, she became OBSESSED with my Baylor TOMS. She saw them when I took them off, pointed to them and grunted. I told her they were mommy's Baylor shoes, and she kept repeating "Baylee-or shoooooes" over and over. Then she demanded we put her in the shoes, and she walked around! She keeps us in stitches!

Speaking of lots of laughs, I pulled out Cara's sunglasses from her CiCi, and she loved wearing them. She didn't use to like them when she was littler, but she kept them on her face while she ran and crawled around the house. The phrase "cool, baby" was uttered quite a few times. Oh, she makes us laugh.

After she went to bed, I packed away all her 12-18m clothes. This was the saddest, biggest bag I've packed yet. Since she wore these for 6 months instead of just 3, we had lots of memories that I reminisced over while I labeled, folded and stored each piece. Sometimes it just feels like it's happening all too fast--still!

Sunday:
We got up and went to church, and fed Cara breakfast while we got ready. She loves high chair time in our room with us.

The good thing about having all new clothes in her wardrobe is a plethora of cute dresses and outfits now. I just love this gray/navy striped dress. What a classic little look. It had some pouf under it, and when she walked away from me, holding her hands out from her hips, I flashed forward to her in her first prom dress in 16 years. It was a surreal moment that I'm sure will be a reality all too soon...

That afternoon, we rested (Cara took a nap for just an hour--again...) and we almost fell asleep before she woke up. But then Buck & Mimi came to visit!! They surprised us the night before by telling us they were going to drive down. I told Cara just before she had her nap that they would be here when she woke up, and she got the sweetest little smile on her face like she knew. We played for several hours together, showed off new tricks, read lots of books and spoiled her with attention. Cara (and Buck & Mimi) were in heaven!

It was a busy, FULL weekend, but it was such a good one. We may not get many more calm, family-centric days as we pack, move and settle in the coming weeks. I'm glad we got this time together.

Have a good week yourself!
