Telling the Grandparents

After our doctor's visit, Chance and I drove to Irving for the weekend. We had a plan to invite my grandparents over for a nice dinner, surprise them with our presence, and then tell them our good news. Mom and I spent most of Saturday cooking a gourmet meal and preparing for them to come over. We made a bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin stuffed with asparagus, mushrooms, parsley and French bread; princess potatoes; green bean bundles; fruit salad; cheddar biscuits and cherry pie. Um, yum. My fam knows how to cook!

Every year, I make a Shutterfly book that chronicles our year in pictures. I made 2011's book a couple of weeks ago and included a one-page spread at the very end with pictures from the day I found out I was pregnant and told Chance, and I put some text about looking forward to 2012 and the arrival of our first child, etc. We sat Nana, Grandad and Grandmother down on the couch and let them look through the whole thing. Chance started shooting clandestine iPhone video when they got toward the end so we'd get their reactions. It was funny--they looked at the pictures, looked at the page, and didn't get it. We had to prompt them to read it closer and then try to understand. It was fun and sweet.

The next day, we went to see Chance's Nanny to tell her. Cari is due with a baby in June, so Chance said, "Nanny, you know how you're going to have another great-grandchild in June?" And before he could say, "You're going to have another one in August!" Nanny had grabbed her chest and started to cry. She sat down on the couch and cried so sweetly for a few minutes. She was so happy and overwhelmed. We hugged her and talked for a few minutes and enjoyed our time. What a sweet time to share with our grandparents.

And here's the video! I apologize for my loud voice--I guess I don't know how loud I am sometimes. I feel like I'm shrieking. Maybe my teacher voice never turns off. :)
