Weekend Recap

We're back in the swing of things after the holiday now. I've been back in school for a week, and I'm feeling more exhausted than I'd like to be, but we had a fantastic relaxing weekend to recharge our batteries.

Before the details of the weekend, I have an awesome picture to share first. I got a text from Cara's daycare teacher on Thursday, showing me what she and her "new boyfriend" had been up to. I'm not sure I'm ready for her to be kissing anyone but Mommy & Daddy just yet. We had a talk about how kisses are special and you don't just give them to anyone. At least little Layton comes from good stock--his mommy and I delivered our babies at the hospital the same week and his daddy and Chance were in the same fraternity at Baylor. Cara is going to miss her sweet friends when she promotes to the next class at daycare this week!

Friday:
Cara and I came home from school, had snacks, she got a bath, and when Chance got home, we went to the MHS boys basketball game! One of my kids plays on varsity, so we went to cheer him on and have some fun. We stayed into the 3rd quarter when Cara started to get squirmy because it was time for bed. She clapped and cheered and had a lot of fun. She especially loved the long, open hallway behind the stands to run around in. Just love her giggles and grins.

Saturday:
We all slept until 8:30 (!!!!), then played on our bed after Cara woke up. We got dressed and went to Cafe Capp for breakfast--yum!! Cara loves peaches and she loved her buttermilk pancake--she kept asking for "more". Fun little family morning.

We came home and Cara took a nap (fully on 1 nap a day these days--and it's been 2.5-3 hours all weekend... hallelujah!!!), and I worked on some projects around the house that I've been meaning to do. Before she went to sleep, we lounged around on the floor together. Chance covered me up first, then set Cara on my back. She bounced for a minute, then gave up and laid down. I also had Po on my feet, so we were cuddled up for a group nap. :)

First project: finally organizing our Christmas cards and letters. I've only got 2 that I have saved so far, but I wanted a way to keep them for the future. A binder, some page protectors and a little Word Art was all I needed. I'm just waiting on a second copy of this year's card so I can show the back of it too.

I worked on a DIY wipes container with strips of fabric, but I couldn't finish it before Cara woke up. We went to HEB, did laundry, stopped at Sonic happy hour, etc. Lovely family errands. I made Cara some roasted butternut squash for dinner, and she was a little hesitant, but seemed to like it too. She's getting better using a fork or spoon, but this was funny. She picked up a piece with her fingers, put it on the fork and put it in her mouth. How else would you do it, right?

When she went to bed, I finished the wipes container. I cut the pieces of fabric I bought (various colors, patterns and textures--both cotton and minky dot), then I printed numbers on iron-on transfer paper and ironed each number on one strip. It was time consuming but fun. And Cara REALLY liked to play with it the next day. She pulled out all 26 pieces really fast, so I imagine I'll spend lots of time putting the pieces back inside. Or else I'll teach her how to do that too! :)

Sunday:
We got up early and went to the early church service and Sunday School. Cara's wake-up and nap schedule FINALLY doesn't pose too much of a conflict with an entire morning of church! We ate lunch at home, then we all went down for rest. I read a book and drank hot cocoa while we watched more episodes of LOST (I'm re-watching all seasons and started #1 the week after Christmas. We're already in the middle of season 4!), but eventually, the lure of lullabys were too strong, and Chance and I both crashed. Cara slept for over 3 hours with one wake-up (and a shush back to sleep), so it was glorious! Even Po took a nap on Cara's freshly-folded laundry.

After naps, I cooked some meals for us and to take to some friends and their new baby. We went to see baby Lilly again and spent some time talking with our friends. We came home and put Cara to bed, watched more LOST and Despicable Me 2 on Redbox and got things ready for the coming week. Lots of school, Junior League and church activities going on that I definitely need my calendar to keep things straight.

Y'all have a good week as well!
