Holiday Weekend Recap

What a fun, long weekend we had as a family! One extra day to play, hang out and make memories...

Saturday:
This was the Connell family day of fun (like Janice and Joey on FRIENDS!). We woke up on Saturday a little later than normal and headed to our favorite--Cafe Capp--for breakfast. Cara LOVES pancakes, and she still does really well when we eat out, so we enjoyed a little hot tea, some pancakes and bacon and had a good time.

When we came home, we got on our bed, and Cara lounged with us while we watched basketball and movies. We stayed on the bed for almost 2 hours-she would bring us books to read, played with the remote controls, jumped around, rolled all over, played with Po, etc. Never a shortage of fun. I was so surprised she didn't get bored, but when she was around us, it was fun!

{Cara's new favorite book is "Go Dog Go!", and we read it a lot. She loves to get excited for the "GO!" parts.}

When she went down for her nap, we lazed around a little more, then we got cleaned up. Cara slept for about 2-2.5 hours, and then we woke her up to have lunch and head to the zoo!

We met our friends Erik & Amanda, and Cara's future best boy friend, Reed, to have some afternoon fun in the sun. The weather all weekend was perfect, and this was no exception. Sunny, not too windy, warm. It was the most fun trip yet. Cara was pointing at animals she knew, making noises, being really engaged. She helped Reed drink from his water cup, and they interacted in the wagon a bit. I can't believe how big they look, and I can't wait for them to do more fun things as they get even older.

{"Cara, what does the lizard say?" and she sticks out her tongue. Awesome!}

The kids were worn out after our trip, so we vegged at home and played with ALL Cara's books and toys for the rest of the evening. Cleanup takes a lot longer these days!

Sunday:
We went to Sunday School, and after we all ate breakfast while I was still getting ready, Chance and Cara climbed back into bed. She was playing, but every once in a while she would snuggle with Chance, and I caught this sweet moment. This girl sure loves her daddy!

After church, we had lunch and Cara slept. I cooked a little for the week, cleaned up, watched TV, did some laundry, etc. It was a nice afternoon. In the late afternoon, we all went to HEB to stock up on a few things and made a Sonic run. Love those! Cara loves her new TOMS that juuuuuuust about fit. Thanks to Mimi for getting her these for Christmas!

That night, we watched some Netflix, finished laundry and chilled out some more. It felt so good to know that we didn't have to wake up extra early and go to work the next day!

Monday:
Since Chance and I were both off this day, we made the decision to send Cara to daycare for a bit so that we could have a date! Free all-day childcare?!?! I got to get a pedicure, and we had lunch at our favorite place, Schmaltz.

We had several errands to run for Chance's upcoming ski trip, and then we went to see Frozen at the theater. It was SO GOOD! Even for just a couple of adults. Funny, corny, great music, cute story, a very traditional Disney epic movie. Loved it.

We picked up Cara early from school (she was so excited to see BOTH of us there!) and went over to Cari's to play with the kids. Since it was so gorgeous, we played out in their backyard on the swingset/slide and drove the kid cars around. They all had so much fun out there!

I was a little terrified of Cara riding this thing, but Mase was a very cautious driver and would make sure she was holding on or he would stop. Cara clearly loved it.

This anxious Mama much preferred the stable Little Tikes car and the swing.

After Cara's dinner and bath, I went to a friend's house for a girl's night manicure party to buy nail wraps. We had a good time being girly and picking out which wraps looked best on each other.

And that brings us to now! I'm looking down the barrel of a busy week at school and home, but Mom is coming Thursday to be with us and watch Cara on Friday. The week is going to fly by! Hope yours is great.
