Friday:
It got COLD on Thursday night, so much so that there was snow and frost on the ground. We got the call at 11:30 that school would be delayed two hours the next morning. Mom had just gotten into town, so we had extra time to stay up and chat with the knowledge that we could sleep in the next day. And we'd put Cara to bed late that night, so we had hopes of a late morning. I slept until 8 a.m. (!!!!) and then got up to shower and get ready while Mom and Cara played. I hated to go to school at 9:30 with them staying home and warm, but I had to...
I raced out of school at 3:40 (after a short, crazy day with very small classes) to get Cara & Mom and go to the mall. We shopped for Cara and ran errands, then they went home and I went to a church meeting with some friends. Mom and I stayed up way late talking and hanging out that evening.
Saturday:
We got up early when Cara did and had breakfast at Cafe Capp (becoming an almost-weekly tradition for us). Cara loved her pancakes and turkey bacon! I showered and packed up after breakfast, and we left for Irving that afternoon during Cara's nap. It wasn't a long nap like she's used to, but we got home to Mom's in good time, and then Nana & Grandad came over to play with Cara too.
I headed to Burleson to meet our church friends at Babe's for a social--they had road tripped north, and we all met together. There were almost 20 of us and a couple of kids, and we had so much fun eating yummy comfort food and laughing. Erik even got to wear the chicken hat, even if it terrified sweet Reed.
I got back to Irving in time to play with Cara before bed and see some of her tricks. She loves riding her car from Christmas!
And we talked about how much she missed Daddy. THIS MUCH!!!
I got up early with Cara, but then Mom took her to church and told me to go back to bed! When they got home, she said she would feed her lunch and put her down for her nap, so I got to keep being lazy. It felt so delicious to rest and lounge--Mimi is a saint!
That afternoon, we got ready to pick up the guys at the airport. Their flight ended up being early, so we were glad we were on top of things. Cara wore her first mini ponytail to the airport. Oh. My. Gosh. I can't believe how grown-up she looks and how it changes her face to have a ponytail. Even more so than just sweeping her bangs to the side with a bow. What a big girl! She also wore her new yellow jeans and a her first denim jacket. Oh goodness, my budget is in trouble with a darling toddler!
At the airport, we waited for "daddEE" and "buh-ck". (Cara finally learned to say the "ck" sound at the end of her words, so we were treated to hearing her say buck, book, milk, dogck (ha) all weekend. Cute to hear her say these real words!) Buck came out first, and Cara gave some big hugs and kisses to him. I saw Chance come out of the security doors first and went to give him a hug, and then Buck put Cara down and she ran across the floor with her arms open to see him. It was the sweetest reunion I've ever seen. She missed her daddy an awful lot!
At this point, it was about 6 p.m., so we went home to M&D's to pack up and load up and eat. We left their house at bedtime for Cara and drove back to Waco. She fought sleep and fussed for a long time in the back, but eventually conked out. We got home around 9:30, transitioned her to her crib and then spent the evening unpacking and prepping Chance's "honey-do" list for the next day. Lucky duck was off on Monday, so he got to do laundry and go to HEB, etc. I'm thankful for him taking care of that so we can bounce back into our week.
The busy-ness continues, but at least we are together!!
