Weekend Recap

So I'm going to try a new thing like many of my blog friends do. I'm hoping this will keep me accountable and give me things to post about besides Cara's monthly posts. And this was a full weekend, so there is a lot to recap! Let's go...

Friday:
Midway hosted a tailgate for faculty before the game, so Chance met Cara and me up there after he got off of work. We ate burgers, introduced Cara to people I work with and went to the game for a bit. It didn't start until 7:30, so we were pushing it, we knew. We made it until the end of the 1st quarter. It ended up being a losing game, which was sad, so we were glad we went home. Chance and I vegged and went to bed early--it was lovely.

{Pinked Out for the October game! She was so distracted by all the activity, so we couldn't get her to look at the camera. She liked to toddle around the concourse holding on to our hands.}

Saturday:
Our busiest day yet! We woke up early to go to Mase's soccer game. Cara ate Cheerios in her high chair in our room and watched Monsters Inc on TV--she couldn't take her eyes off the movie! It was windy and chilly at the game, but it was really fun to watch all the little 4-year-olds run around and kick the ball. Here is a pic from before we left.

After the soccer game, we went to Hallie Kate's 2nd birthday party at the gymnasium. Cara had SO MUCH fun!!!! She walked everywhere, bounced on the trampolines, climbed on the squashy pieces, and just giggled as she walked and ran. My heart was so full watching her be a little girl and envisioning her in a year or two maybe doing gymnastics and having fun doing something she loves. She started to get fussy at the end because it was time for her nap, so we took her home and gladly obliged.

While Cara napped, we did laundry and I went to HEB. Gotta love multitasking! When she woke up, we went to the zoo! We have an annual membership, but hadn't used it too much in the summer because it was so hot. So we loaded up the wagon and took advantage of the GORGEOUS weather. Cara loved to look at the animals, point at them, ride in her wagon, eat her snacks as we rode and walk around now and then. We'll definitely be going back often in the fall and next spring. Plus, going from 3-5 or so was the perfect time--not too crowded, nice weather, visible animals, etc. We loved it!

We came home, Chance grilled us steaks while Cara and I played and watched the Baylor game on TV. She was a BEAR (not of the Baylor variety) because she was so tired. We really wore her out. She was screaming for bed at 6:45. We held off until 7 and laid her down and she went right out. Then she slept until 7:30 the next day. She usually sleeps for 11.5 hours, so she definitely was tired! Hazard of having fun.

{She found my phone and I turned on one of her Fisher Price apps. She took it to her chair to watch for a while, then needed to lay down to keep counting along. Too cute!}

Sunday:
We went to church and Sunday School. BRH came to our church to sing this morning, and I love when they come. I always wish I had tried out to be in the choir in college, and I love how they lead worship. We left feeling blessed and uplifted. After church, we fed Cara lunch and put her down for a nap, and I got a big one too since we did all the laundry and grocery shopping yesterday! It was lovely to curl up in bed for more than an hour, undisturbed. (BTW, I am digging this one-nap-day thing. It's hard when Cara gets fussy because she's so tired with the transition, but it's so much more flexible for our schedule. I do miss having two set times a day when I can get stuff done or nap myself, but it's a more freeing schedule for things we want to do as a family.) When Cara woke up, we were playing and she grabbed her favorite book and walked over to me. She held it out to me and climbed into my lap. I just melted. We "read it" (really I recited it from memory because we read it all the time) twice. Then we went to run errands--got 3 Spoons for a snack, bought her some new jammies and winter clothes (Carter's had 50% off and I had a coupon--score!) and came home to play more. Cara went to bed early, I packed away all her 9-12 month clothes (tear...) and got ready for the week to begin again!

It's been a super busy weekend, but one that has left my heart feeling fuller than it has in a while. I love Cara at this age, able to play independently, go with us on adventures, walk and act like a little girl, communicate with us. This week brings a check of Cara's ears (4th double ear infection last week, going down a not-so-fun road here) and a visit from Mom at the end of the week. My birthday is one week from today, and it's a big one! Can't wait to start celebrating!!

Have a great week!
