Weekend Recap--M&M's birthday party

We had such a great extended weekend of fun with our family. We enjoyed our Memorial Day holiday and got over Cara's 4-day fever, thank goodness.

Friday:
Chance stayed home with Cara for her last day of fever, and I raced home at 3:45 to play with her. I had a girl's dinner planned, and Chance was so sweet to let me go, even though he'd been home all day. What a guy!

We had fun eating and talking for hours, and when I had gotten home, Chance had done the laundry too! Like I said, what a guy...

Saturday:
We had been so worried about Cara's fever, since the nighttime was always worse. When she woke up on Saturday morning (at 8:30!!), she immediately asked for milk and "Mick Mouse" and sat on the couch watching cartoons. She was a happy girl again! Made my heart feel a lot better.

PS when did she get so tall? Look at those lanky legs, with barely a baby roll to be found!

That afternoon, we took naps, ran errands and played at the house. We had a surprise rainstorm, and Cara loved to watch out the window. I love our living area and windows that make it easy to watch outside. Beautiful rain!

We had dinner at Bush's (Chance picked since he did all the work and the hard stuff this week), and Cara preferred her blueberries to her chicken. Whose girl is this?

Sunday:
We went to Sunday School and had lunch at home. Cara took a BIG nap, and so did we, and as soon as she woke up, we went to Mase & Murphee's joint birthday party at Kiddieland! The last time I was there, I was about 6 months pregnant, hot and big. It's way more fun with a child to run around with!

But this time, we took Cara on a few rides with us to get her used to it, and then she took off! She was hesitant at first, and seemed stoic through the whole thing (partially due to the sunglasses she refused to take off), but after each ride she would say, "Gain! Gain!" for "again" or say the name of the ride she wanted to do: "rocket ship, horsey, cars, boat, train" etc. For a solid 1.5 hours, she was riding rides with us and by herself. So much fun!

Then it was time for cupcakes and juice, and Cara again took a few bites of cupcake and asked for apple slices and her milk. Again, whose child is she?!?

We took some family pics and tried to wrangle all 3 kids to be in the same place, looking in the same directions. They were tired and sweaty and worn out. It was a really fun afternoon!

That evening, we needed food, baths and beds, and we got it all in short order. It was really fun to celebrate both M&Ms together and to watch Cara play and be a big girl. It was interesting to see her personality come out in a new situation too. Taking it all in at first, needing some reassurance from us, then directing us for what she wanted and keeping her calm, sometimes reserved personality.

Monday:
We all slept in and totally bummed around in the morning. Cara got to eat a donut at Shipley's and, of course, drink her milk.

Today is Po's 10th birthday, and so we made sure to give him extra snuggles and loves. Cara isn't quite the best at "soft touch" with Po just yet, so mainly Mama gave him cuddles--I even let him take a nap on me in the afternoon. :)

I completed a home project I have been wanting to do for a while--fix up Cara's windows. I got some dark canvas fabric, and my awesome friend Lindsey repurposed her old dust ruffle into curtains! I used Velcro strips on the window to secure the fabric to the window behind the blinds. Cara's windows are giant and they get tons of light during the day, so often at home her naps are 1-1.5 hours and she wakes up at 6:45-7 religiously. Today, we put her down at 12:30 and we had to wake her up at 3:30!!!! I'll say these windows are pretty great. I don't think we'll miss having that natural light in there, at least for a while until she's older. We even put some up on one of our east-facing windows to keep the morning light out a little bit.

I made some yummy chicken in the crock pot for dinner, and we watched our 4th movie of the weekend. This whole weekend was so nice and relaxing and full of family time. After a crummy last week of Cara's fever and sickness, it felt great to be together and happy. We took lots of naps, watched movies, played and read a million books, watched a lot of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Sofia the First and enjoyed our days together. It was a quick taste of summer time, and THAT can't come fast enough!
