Christmas #1-our family

We decided to have our small family Christmas celebration on Friday, 12/20, partly because we had lots of large family plans in the next few days, and partly because we couldn't wait any more. I cooked us a meal that evening, and when Chance got home from work, we gave our presents to Cara and each other. Low key was the name of the game--as evidenced by our jammies and Cara in just her diaper. :) I guess the excitement of gift-giving overwhelmed us.

Cara opened 2 books and her stocking, which had a baby "Sic Em Bears" shirt from Congress Clothing. Size 2T so she can wear it for months to come.

In my stocking, Chance got me a DVD of Dirty Dancing, one of my all-times faves. I can't believe I didn't own it before now! I got him a pair of hunting gloves, since he lost one of his at the Baylor/UT game.

Then for the big things. We were giving Cara a bookcase, but couldn't put it together until after Christmas. I had gotten Chance a Baylor Stadium brick with our names on it, and I'd been keeping the secret for weeks! He was surprised, and we will get a map of its location as construction of the stadium progresses. What a fun, tangible thing to have to show Cara and see for seasons to come.

Sweet Chance tucked away some of his year-end bonus money to give me so that I could shop for a new wardrobe of clothes! I've been saying for weeks that I need new clothes, want a new style, don't have anything to wear, etc., and he'd been listening to me. It was so sweet of him to save and plan and sacrifice to make me happy.

We NEVER spend a giant amount of money on each other, preferring to spend it on Cara or to go on a trip or something to share it together, so this was out of character for both of us. But it was sweet and special. I'm glad we changed up our tradition this year.

Next year, we will have to figure out what to do when Cara actually knows about Santa and wants presents on Christmas Day. She liked opening these gifts, and she kept getting better the more we did. The excitement of Christmas has arrived!!

  1. So sweet! Have you heard of stichfix? You go online, fill out a profile with your style preferences, and they send you 5 pieces to try. I didn't love everything in my first box, but I got two shirts I wouldn't normally have picked out for myself. And the more you do it, the more your stylist gets to know you. There's a $20 styling fee, but it goes toward your purchase of anything you buy in your box. I'd recommend giving it a try! Have fun shopping, whatever you decide to do!

    1. Yes! I'm actually getting my second Fix this week. The first one was kind of a bust, but I filled out more preferences and gave more feedback after it came, so I'm hopeful this one will be great! I think it's a great idea. Of course, a lot of that money is going to Nordstrom from Sheaffer's and your picks. :)
